Techniques We Use to Grow Produce

As an organization and farm that is committed to sustainability, we have a strong passion for creating a space where produce is grown in a safe and responsible manner. Our team is constantly experimenting with methods and techniques that are both organic and environmentally friendly. While we continue to learn and develop our farming practices, we are fully dedicated to continuously improving our methods for producing healthy and sustainable food.

At our farm, we employ a range of approaches that blend traditional Indian practices with modern techniques. This enables us to grow produce that is healthy, delicious, and grown in a way that respects the environment. We are fully committed to exploring new and innovative farming methods, and we consider farming to be both a challenging and rewarding pursuit. Ultimately, our goal is to create a space that produces food in a way that is both sustainable and beneficial for our community.

Raised Beds Technique

We use raised bed farming to promote sustainable and responsible agriculture. Our sturdy plastic raised beds allow us to control the growing environment and keep our crops healthy. By layering waste sticks, leaf litter, soil, and compost, we create a controlled environment that minimizes soil-borne diseases and pests while promoting healthy growth. Our raised beds are perfect for growing a variety of crops and we are committed to expanding our operations to increase our crop yield every month. With 16 raised beds currently in use and plans to add 4 more each month, we are excited to continue providing high-quality, nutritious produce for years to come.

Jivamrut and Panchagavya

There are two natural fertilizers that we use on our farm – Jivamrut and Panchagavya – that help to improve the health of our soil and increase beneficial microorganisms.

Jivamrut is a mixture of cow urine, cow dung, pulses, and jaggery. This natural fertilizer is applied by spraying it on leafy vegetables and drenching fruit trees. It is known to boost the growth of beneficial microorganisms in the soil, which helps to improve the overall health of the plants.

Panchagavya, on the other hand, is a mixture of cow dung, urine, milk, curd, ghee, coconut, banana, and jaggery. The ingredients are mixed in the proper ratio and allowed to ferment before being applied to the soil once a month. This natural fertilizer also helps to add beneficial microorganisms to the soil and promotes healthy plant growth.

Both Jivamrut and Panchagavya are natural and environmentally friendly fertilizers that we use as part of our commitment to sustainable farming practices. By incorporating these methods into our farming techniques, we are able to produce healthy and sustainable food while respecting the environment.

Vermicomposting

We prioritize sustainable waste management practices and one of the methods we use is vermicomposting. We have set up multiple vermicomposting beds, where we treat the compost that comes in from Malaka Spice before transferring it to the beds.

The vermicomposting process involves layering the compost with agro waste or dried leaves, cow dung, compost cultures, and worms. We build multiple layers of these components to create a healthy and nutrient-rich environment for the worms to thrive in. Over time, the worms break down the organic matter and produce a rich and fertile compost that we use to nourish our plants and soil.

By incorporating vermicomposting into our farming practices, we are able to reduce waste and produce a valuable resource for our farm. We believe that sustainable waste management practices are essential for the health of our planet and our community, and vermicomposting is just one of the many ways we are working towards a more sustainable future.

EM Solution

EM Solution is a powerful and effective mixture of beneficial microorganisms that we use on our farm to improve plant growth and overall soil health. This unique solution is a combination of both aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms that work together in symbiosis, creating a mutually beneficial relationship that enhances the quality and productivity of our crops.

At our farm, we use EM Solution for our mango and banana plantations, composting, and vegetable patches. This technique has numerous benefits, including increased yields, improved quality of crops, and protection against rotting of organic matter, foul smells, and rusting of iron.

EM 1 works by strengthening the roots of the plants, protecting them against harmful microorganisms, fungi, and diseases, while promoting the growth of beneficial microorganisms that support the plant’s growth and productivity. These microorganisms also help to absorb carbon dioxide and nitrogen from the air, which is then transferred to the plants, leading to better absorption of sunlight and overall plant growth.

To create our EM Solution, we use EM 1 Solution, jaggery, rice water, and sugar. By incorporating this powerful solution into our farming practices, we are able to produce healthier, more sustainable crops while promoting overall soil health and sustainability.
